The 20th Anniversary International Society for Equitation Science (ISES) Conference was held at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, from July 23–26, 2025. CSU, home to a leading Equine Sciences programme, provided a fitting setting for a gathering dedicated to evidence-based approaches to horse–human interactions.

The conference theme, Improving Connections with Horses through Science, reflected the society’s mission to advance equitation science and equine welfare. The programme featured plenary talks from international leaders in equitation science, 23 oral presentations, 21 posters, and a Clever Hans lecture, addressing topics from equine learning theory and welfare assessment to training practices and technology in equitation.

A practical day at CSU’s Equine Center included demonstrations on saddle fitting, equine scent work, and digital technology to enhance rider performance, alongside tours of the Temple Grandin Equine Center.

Many delegates from across the globe attended the conference, representing diverse backgrounds in research, veterinary practice, training, education, and equine welfare. Pre-conference activities included a cooperative care training tour at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
