Denise Rofe, Msc (Biochem), Dip Mus T, is a dressage coach based a Woodside, South Australia. She is married to a scientist and has two adult sons. After an early career in eventing, she has now trained and ridden horses to Grand Prix level dressage, and has coached riders through the levels in eventing and dressage. Special interests include animal behavior, horse and rider biomechanics and freestyle dressage. The interest in science and horse training began with Andrew McLean at the Australian Equine Behavior Centre in the mid 1990’s. Denise has a strong commitment to the promotion of evidence based training, in particular, learning theory and horse/rider biomechanics. The welfare of horses in sport is increasingly being scrutinized and Denise sees a longer- term role as a coach in educating the equestrian community in best practices in horse handling and training. She brings her considerable equestrian experience and background in science to the ISES committee as the rider/practitioner representative.
