Professor Katherine Houpt received her veterinary and PhD degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She is Professor of Animal Behaviour at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been studying horse behavior and welfare, investigating flehmen, environmental preferences, welfare issues of tethered mares and cribbing. She directs the Animal Behavior Clinic and has written a textbook Domestic Animal Behavior.
She is a horse-crazy girl who never grew up and has ridden badly on five continents. She trail rides on an Arabian horse.
